PROFESSIONAL INFORMATION

Biographical Notes:

design element
Since 1990 he has been a full-time professional mediator and arbitrator in Michigan and other venues, with extensive training and experience in all phases of conflict resolution, and has served as a neutral in 1000s of tort and commercial disputes since 1978.

Paul's prior diverse litigation experience in federal and state courts enhances his ability as a neutral. He pioneered the use of mediation in Michigan in the mid-1980's. He has mediated or arbitrated cases of all types and value including many multi-million dollar and multi-party tort and commercial cases, and was the court-appointed settlement master in the multi-billion dollar Dow Corning breast implant insurance coverage litigation. He also has served by court appointment as a mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, case evaluator, receiver, expert witness, umpire and referee. His peers have rated him “AV” in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory since 1989 – the highest ranking possible, and have voted him one of The Best Lawyers in America for dispute resolution as published by Woodward/White. He has been named as a Michigan Super Lawyer by Law & Politics. He co-authored the chapter on Settlement, Negotiation, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (“ADR”) in ICLE’s Michigan Civil Procedure, and has been videotaped twice for advanced training purposes while conducting mock mediations. Additionally, he teaches an ADR class for law students.
